Sue Bradley Committee Co-Chair
Statehood Steering Committee Comes to Tennant Creek Show
The Northern
Territory Statehood Steering Committee will be at the Tennant Creek
Show this week circulating Fact Sheets and surveying locals about
their views on Statehood.
“Following on from only our third Committee meeting on Thursday
7 July, also being held at Tennant Creek, it will be a great opportunity
for Committee members to speak to people and get their views on
Statehood” Committee Co-Chair Sue Bradley said today.
“The first ten of our newly developed Fact Sheets on Statehood
issues, will be available for the first time to people in Tennant
Creek.
“We are also conducting surveys and offering Statehood Committee
representatives to follow up with visits or further information
if people have an ongoing interest.
‘It is our first time at the Show and we are very excited
to talk to people in this part of the Barkly in a fun and informal
atmosphere.”
Committee members have indicated they are very interested in finding
out the sorts of things people think are most important when it
comes to Statehood.
“People should come and tell the Committee what they think
and what they want. Already preliminary surveys are showing us Territorians
need to know a lot more before they are comfortable with final moves
toward Statehood, it is essential for everyone to have their say”
she said.
The Northern Territory Statehood Steering Committee is made up of
14 community members and three members of the Legislative Assembly.
Its role is to consult widely and develop strategies to provide
education on Statehood issues for all Territorians.
The Committee met for the first time in Alice Springs in April.
