Statehood Steering Committee Coming to Fred’s Pass

The Northern Territory Statehood Steering Committee will be at Fred’s Pass Show this weekend to give people in Darwin and the rural area the opportunity to meet Committee members for the first time.

“It will a great opportunity for newly appointed Committee members to get out there and speak to people and get their views on Statehood,” Committee Co-Chair Sue Bradley said today.

“We will be testing some of the newly developed Fact Sheets on Statehood issues, conducting surveys and offering Statehood Committee representatives to follow up with visits or further information if people have an ongoing interest.

‘It is our first time at any of the shows so we are very excited about the chance to talk to Territorians in a fun and informal atmosphere.”

Sue Bradley indicated she is very interested in finding out the sorts of things Territorians think are most important when it comes to Statehood.

“People need to come and tell us what they think and what they want. already preliminary surveys are showing us Territorians need to know a lot more before they are comfortable with any final moves toward Statehood, it is essential for everyone to have their say” she said.

The Northern Territory Statehood Steering Committee is made up of 14 community members and three members of the Legislative Assembly. Its role is to consult widely and develop strategies to provide education on Statehood issues for all Territorians.

The Committee met for the first time in Alice Springs last month. Committee representatives will be at the Fred’s Pass Show on your left shortly after the main entry to the grounds.
