Welcome
The Statehood Steering Committee was established by the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in 2005 to consult widely and educate Territorians about Statehood.
On 30 November 2007, the Chief Minister took on the role of Minister for Territory-Federal Relations and Statehood. The Minister is separate to the Committee and the Committee does not report directly to him, however the Minister provides a senior person in Government to develop policy to facilitate Statehood.
Malarndirri McCarthy MLA is the Chair of the Legislative Assembly Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs and is also the Chair of the Statehood Steering Committee; The Committee Co Chair is community representative Sue Bradley.
The Terms of Reference for the Committee are available here.
Each Committee member is dedicated to working with all Territorians towards Statehood.
If you would like to meet a Committee representative please contact us. We are happy to arrange a speaker to come to your community group, business, classroom or other organisation to discuss Statehood.
Your views on Statehood are always welcome, they can be sent to us by email at statehood@nt.gov.au or go to the online forum.
Please have a look at the contents of this site and the relevant links, tell us what you think, and remember, this is your place to talk to us about Statehood. All criticisims, suggestions and thoughts are welcome. All suggestions about what we should be doing or how we should be doing it will be seriously considered.
